Transnistria

I am planning a trip to Transnistria for next year and I was wondering if anyone had any tips (getting in/out, getting around, things to see). I have never been here!

The Dutch government used to have a travel warning against going to Transnistria in place; it seems to have been relieved, but still I'd be cautious. I don't recall ever having seen anybody posting on that destination here, so I'm not sure how fruitful your request is going to be. Sorry I can't be of any help.

It's a long time since I've been there but whatever you do, don't lose your departure docket - entering the region you will have to fill out a form at the 'border', a custom's declaration and the departure docket makes up half of this form.

If you lose it, it will cost you dearly in bribes. Actually, even if you don't lose it the border guards will most likely look for bribes anyway. Play dumb, laugh a lot at nothing, and if worst comes to the worst give them a pack of cigarettes.

Wikitravel have a really good guide on the area, worth checking out.
Sorry I can't be more help, but as I've said, it's been some time.

A few shifty characters running the border crossings, but nowhere as nasty as the Serbs. Keep a clean sheet and you'll be just fine.
It's a lovely region and well worth a visit. Tiraspol has some great little bars and the people are, although a little reserved and sometimes a bit wary of talking to outsiders, extremely nice.
It reminded me quite a lot of Albania in the early '90s.
Take €'s with you. They are accepted everywhere.
