International driving permit - needed?

NewLife has indicated that this thread is about Australia

Your full UK driving licence will be just fine and 100% permitted in Australia for driving vehicles that you are qualified to drive in the UK.
The same rules apply in the UK as over there.. If you only have an auto licence, than you can't drive a manual. That's about it.

I'm off to Australia in feb using a WHV. While there I want to get a campervan to travel along the east coast. Now I reckon I could be driving for more than 3 months.

The "3 months" rule is only for people on a "permanent" visa, e.g. those becoming residents. On any "temporary" visa (including WHVs), you can drive on your regular license for an indefinite period.

Thanks guys! One less think to worry about. See you on the roads! :-)

i think a International Driver's license is good to have, since it also acts like an ID. better to take it with you, compared to the bulky passport

Would suggest taking the paper part of the UK licence as well as the plastic card. It explains driving 'history' - something we need to hire cars here in the UK, though I don't know about Australia.

Happy roads.
