Help - stayed in Schengen too long with no visa!

I think I may be in trouble.

I should add that I am currently enrolled in a language school, and according to the school it qualifies me for a student visa. I don't know if I can apply for a student visa from inside the country, though.

I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to make myself legal.

You are. There isn't. You can't.

Unawareness of the rules is no excuse: any guidebook could have told you this. Your best shot is to turn to your consulate for advice: there may be special rules regarding student visa in Germany that I am unaware of. But I don't think this can be solved in any other way than by going home and apply for a student visa from there.

good luck, Niels

Go to the local Ausländerbehörde and talk to them. At the worst they will order you fly home within 14 days and tell you to come back the next day and show them your flight ticket.
