I visited the US for the first time in 2007, at the age of 30. When I was 18 I was nicked for possession of an illegal substance (cannabis) and received a CR. I just assumed that after 10 years it didn't count anymore so I didn't even really think about it. I just filled out the Visa waiver form on the plane and they let me in without looking twice at me. Obviously I ticked the 'no I don't have any criminal records' box or whatever it was. I went back in 2008 and it was the same, filled out the green form on the plane and they let me through without any bother.
I'm sure you'll be fine, but that's just one experience so don't take my word for it. There are tons of threads, just do a search for 'criminal' and you get loads of results where you can read other people's experiences too.
