Salvador Carnival Accommodation

Hi everyone ,

We are looking at going to Salvador Carnival. What sort of accommodation are you booking?

Hey ,

I always rent apartments instead of staying in Hostels or Hotels, are better located , I mean right in the core of the carnival ,more comfortable and we all have more privacy to party as late as we want. I usually rent I rent it a minimum of 10 days , so it makes the price as much as a Hostel price or cheaper than that.

Hi Greg!

I am traveling to Salvador for Carnival with a friend from Australia. We have been trying to book some accommodation and would be interested in sharing to make things easier.

Would you be interested? Have you got many people?

Cheers,

Marty

Hy Marty

I rent the apartment and during those days I will be there helping you guys to buy the Carnival t-shirts, private stands and give you as much information you will need during those days and of course ...I will be partying with you guys. In the apartment we also have a maid that comes everyday to clean and keep the apartment cleaned and helping us with breakfast and lunch everyday !!!
This year of 2009 we were in a group of 40 people between 4 apartments , plus friends of those that were in Salvador, so when we hit the streets to party was a really good fun time. I rent the apartments for 10 days , that`s the way it becomes cheaper than a hostel, the location is always in the core of the carnival party and everyone sleeps on beds , none on the floor or living room.
For next year the apartment will be available from 8th to 17th February 2010 , the price will vary on which type of apartment you decide to stay. The main thing is that in Brazil during carnival they have a minimum stay that is usually 7 days and in our case to make the accommodation cheaper I take it for 10 days as if I rent it from 3, 5 , 7 or 10 days they will charge me the same price, so if you stay for 3, 5 or 10 days you will pay the same amount of money as everyone else that is staying for the 10 days of stay. The apartment prices vary because I may rent a 2 floors penthouse with private swimming pool and that`s the one that is more expensive, the difference is after you come back from the streets you have the pool to relax and also during the day the pool will be there at all times and usually the penthouse is our meeting point to go out and where I am most of the time , it`s a kind of our headquarter , the other apartments are good apartments in the carnival area(Barra) that they may have or may not have pool in the building complex, that`s the reason why the difference of price.
I always suggest in any way to people to come to Salvador before Carnival starts because you are gonna have the chance to see the city getting ready for the big party and there is lots of pre-Carnival parties which are really good, carnival starts officially on Thursday so from Monday to Thursday you will have a lot to party and to get to know Salvador, it`s a really great time, believe me !!!!!
The other thing is, I know you are gonna read in many travel websites that you have to get your accommodation ASAP and also the carnival T-shirts, Don't Panic!!! there is loads of accommodation and also any carnival t-shirt ( ticket) you may want to buy I can get hold of , as I said I've been doing that for the last 6 years and I do know all the way to get the best of it , in price , location and good fun.
Carnival in Salvador officially starts on the 11th Feb not on the 13th. If you really can't arrive b4 , it`s OK , you are still gonna have fun but ideally you should arrive on the 8th or latest on the 11th , but it all depends on your flexibility at work I know. If you still have a few days after carnival , there is an island 2 hours by boat from Salvador that lots of people go to after carnival , really good place called , Morro de Sao Paulo, it starts on Wednesday when carnival finish and goes till Sunday( people leave the island on Sunday). It`s a beautiful island that during the day everybody just relax by the beach and during the night party ....it`s more calm and relaxing, kind of alternative place. There is no proper streets in the island but it is very well prepared to receive the tourist. it`s a very famous place in Brazil and only people with extra money go there at this time of the year. In Brazil the parties that happen straight after carnival are called Carnival Hangover parties, it means people go to relax and have some extra fun , Morro de Sao Paulo is the most famous carnival hangover party.
Maybe my email sounds a bite repetitive but as I am talking to about 20 people at the same time already , I get previous emails I have sent to other people , make a whole mix and try to answer your questions and any possible future ones you may have. From everything you read above the only thing I think I have to mention is , you need to decide when you are gonna arrive in Salvador, if not , you need to decide the date and let me know ASAP so I can help you to buy your internal flights as it is a very important thing to be done .....depending on the day and time you fly it can be very expensive and usually people from abroad can't buy cheap internal Brazilian flights from the Internet . That's a way the Brazilian airlines persuade people to buy the international Brazilian air pass which is more expensive .
If you feel interested get in touch and i will send you pictures from the apartment , or even if you find somewhere else to stay and may need any help when in Salvador get in touch, we are definitely gonna meet up for a drink over there. Just make sure you go to Salvador , It is an amazing time !!!!!

Greg
