1: depending on your budget ... flight would obv be way quicker, tho the bus will be heaps cheaper, it'll take forever! - fly for sure ... gold coast airport is in Coolangatta which imo is the best location in Australia.
2: check the accomodation tab on the left hand side of this site ... very helpfull!
3: hotel/hostel ... bars ... beach ... everywhere i guess - chat chat chat!

1) Fly if you can. Check flights from jetstar and virgin blue on www.webjet.com.au - consider flights to Brisbane as well as Coolangatta as they may well be cheaper (Brisbane is a bigger and busier airport) plus Brisbane is only about an hour away and there is a train direct from the airport see www.airtrain.com.au

3) Go to the beach, it's a seminal spot for aussies and travellers.
