best way to get to Spain on Delta Frequent Flyer miles?

I think I might spend my June birthday in Spain next year for a couple weeks (Madrid/Barcelona/Ibiza). I have 60,000+ miles on Delta/Northwest and would love to use them for the trip. Does anyone know Delta/Northwest routes enough to give me advice on the best route to take to be able to use the miles? Seems direct to Madrid may not work so I was thinking flying to a hub and take a train from there. Maybe Frankfurt or Paris? What is the most direct (or interesting) train route? Any opinions are welcome!

From Beauvais' Tille airport (there is a cheap shuttle to and from Paris), you can get a Ryanair flight to Madrid, or Girona (for Barcelona). Ryanair is a budget airline so fairly cheap, despite taxes, etc added on.

Trains are expensive and you don't see that much. Even getting around Spain, distances can be fairly big and trips long, while flights can be cheap. From the Costa del Sol (south coast), you can get trips to Seville, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Granada, Cordoba, Faro (Portugal) and Morocco (if you don't feel like driving).

June is the start of the holiday period and prices go up. Weather is nice in Spain in May (and often in April) when prices are cheaper and less people about. Do shop around for accommodation as different online companies charge a wide range of rates for the same rooms.

Delta is part of SkyTeam, partner airlines . You can book rewards on most of the partner airlines as well, or combination of flights.

You didn't say where you were flying from, but I checked your profile and assume it is your home city of Minneapolis. You could either fly to Atlanta, or fly to Europe (either Paris for Air France or Amsterdam for KLM) and onto Madrid from there.

By the way, for June of 2010, and I would suggest if you want to get a ticket for 60,000 miles, you should book SOON. You might have to book on off days (i.e. flights on Tuesday and Wednesday) to be able to get an award for that price. If you can't get anything, call 800-323-2323, which is the SkyMiles desk, and they might be able to help.

We flew into Malaga this past March on Delta. Small quiet airport. a leisurely bus or train ride from there to Valencia and then over to Ibiza may be nice....

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I'll check out your suggestions
