Carnival is BIG. Rooms start being booked the year before. Hostels would have been all booked up months ago and hotels charge three times their normal prices with a compulsory stay from 4-7 days minimum, and get it. You either have to pay a fortune at this late date, or get a carnival package from a travel agent with flights and hotel.
