Lone travelling, South East USA

Well, it will be cold on the East Coast in December and January, except in south Florida, so one question is whether you are looking to stay in the warm weather or whether you want to travel around heading farther north or not?

In the south Florida area, you want to visit Orlando, Miami (south Beach area), the Everglades, the Florida Keys (islands running from Florida down through to Key West), and possibly the Tampa/St. Petersburg area and Ft. Myers area (mostly old people here, but the beaches are the best in all of Florida). Take an airboat ride, visit the space center just east of Orlando (Cape Canaveral), etc.

If you decide to travel farther afield, I'd suggest towns like New Orleans and Memphis (limit your visit to Beale Street), or Nashville farther northwest, or to Atlanta (area northwest of downtown), Athens, Georgia (for the college life), or to Washington DC and New York if you go on up the east coast. Fact is that not many people travel to spots other than New York or Orlando or Miami during the Christmas season and into January;--so if you are looking for more young people, either go to these spots or to college towns like Gainesville, Florida (Univ of Florida); Athens, Georgia (already mentioned--Univ of Georgia), or hang out with the American football fans who will be attending the bowl game in Orlando on Dec 29th (Florida Citrus Bowl) or go to New Orleans prior to January 1st and hang out with the fans travelling to the semifinal (currently looking like it will be Alabama vs. Florida State at this location, though we'll now the exact teams tomorrow afternoon). P.S. Either wear neutral colors, or else be sure to hang out with the fans that match your colors (Alabama wears red (crimson) and white, and Florida State wears even an darker red and gold). Be aware that going to the game itself will be extremely costly though, but since you can watch it on TV, just go to a local bar and celebrate with the fans there.
