Overland trip: Sao Paulo to Cusco

Hey my name is Benny, a 22 year old South African. Coming over to South America for 5 weeks in december and january (2014/15). I thought i would try my luck with this blog asking for advice on the initial leg of our journey. We are flying in to Sao Paulo in early december and our plan is to travel by bus all the way across to Peru. We will obviously do this in stages but we might be slightly pressed for time. Our idea is to firstly go down to the Iguassu falls and then across to Bolivia and then eventually to Peru. We will stop for a couple days at a time at all of our pitstops along the way. If any of you experienced backpackers have done a similar trip before, any advice on the feasibility and practicality of the journey would be much appreciated as well as suggestions of which places are worth stopping over in along the way. Thanks in advance. Much love, Benny

I think traveling by bus in Peru will be quite exhausting. But 5 weeks is a lot of time.

You should thoroughly visit the Sacred Valley area, then to Arequipa, Nazca, Ica. Southern Peru is quite interesting.

I think you can fly in via Lima or Arequipa from Sao Paulo.

Thanks for the reply! Are you saying it's a bit ambitious to bus the whole trip? would you recommend flying part of the way?
