Traveling the 50 states!

Hi! I am 26 years old, hate the whole 9-5 deal so I'm embarking on a mission to live in all 50 states. I am trying to make my way to a 100% online income to give me some more flexibility in regards to travel. In the meantime, I will be moving all around the U.S., picking up work when needed and living on the cheap. I plan to spend about a month in each state, some more, some less. Once I am fully online, I am will be heading overseas for half the year and living all around the states the other half. Wondering if there's anyone out there who is in the states and might want to share some adventures! I like traveling alone, but I also enjoy have a travel buddy when possible! I am entirely open on where I go and when I go. Let me know!

We're all different and obviously I don't know much about you but to me the downside of your plan is you have all the disruption of travelling but little of the variety. The USA is broadly one culture, and an expensive place to live; if you're trying to get by on an online income somewhere like southeast Asia may be a fifth of the cost of living, or eastern Europe may be half. With plenty of new things to see and do, compared to a lot of the same things whether you are in Utah or California.

True, but I have spent a decent amount of time already traveling the U.S. and there are a lot of unique things in each state. As I said, I will be going overseas as well, but not until I can finagle making my income online. It will make it more enjoyable! As far as cost, it's actually far LESS to stay in places for a week, a month, at a time all over the U.S. than it is to rent a 1-bedroom apartment where I am from and I plan to stay with friends and family along the way. You definitely make some good points though!

If you need some good advice as to interesting locations, you are welcome to check out my blog, look at the Friday posts, those are the ones to look at. We are in the middle of our trip right now, if a little delay! We just left Kansas and heading to Oklahoma next. Check it out, www.blog.gearspoke.com!

Picking up casual work in the States is no longer easy. Employers do not want someone who's only going to be around for 30 days. If you're coming from outside the country, you will have to show financial resources adequate for your stay as well as an airline ticket to depart.

You might be able to afford a cheap room in Mississippi, but I seriously doubt if you can afford one in California's SF Bay Area or Washington DC!

If you do couch surfing, or helpx.com there is always locations that you will be able to find. The biggest issue will be trying to find the budget to travel.

So your travel plan is to spend a little over 4 years living in each of the US states... that's great!...

Good luck with your internet business plan, etc.

All the best to you.

Cheers,
Terry

I've already looked into places to stay... all set there. I have friends in many areas as well, particularly to help out with expensive areas like SF, LA, NYC, etc. As far as jobs, I do a lot of freelance stuff, short-term temp work, and babysitting so it's pretty easy to find work for me. I'm also a U.S. citizen so that helps. Thanks for the comments though! Definitely issues for some!

Thank you! It will be a bit less time since I've already lived in quite a few! I'll be spending time overseas as well.
