Hello, i wanted to travel somewhere from russia to swim in october. I am afraid i can only go by train. Because of health issues. I chose san sebastian, spain. However it turned out there was a shark attack there in 2012. I am in a shock.
Can you recommend some place in Europe where it is safe and stll warm in october? I was sure south of France is safe. But google says to the contrary!
Our black sea resorts are already too cold to take sun bathes.
you will need a hotel pool
Well first, sharks can be found off any beach on any ocean/sea, so there are NO guaranteed shark free beaches other than on lakes.
Second, in October, average temperatures begin to drop and it is unlikely anywhere you can reach by train will have average temperatures above say 20C. San Sebastian average temperature for October is 16C as you can see here: http://www.holiday-weather.com/san_sebastian/averages/
Your other choice of the south of France is hardly better with an average of 18C in NIce for example.

Even the southermost Greek islands or the Turkish coast won't get you more than around 20C average.
So you need to define what YOU call warm enough for 'sun bathes'.
20 degrees sounds fine as long as there are no sharks. You are totally incorrect as to sharks. I did not say i am a profy. But i read in google about sharks free destinations. So i decided such places do exist. I am afraid you are being rude about pointing to my mistakes. This is quite offensive
Oh he's very capable of being rude, but in this case I think OldPro was being helpful and accurate. Your last gasp of summer temperatures in October are towards Turkey if you won't fly.
To me the shark thing seems a little bit of an unrealistic concern. If San Sebastian had an incident 4 years ago, is that a big deal? I think you are more likely to be hurt by a drunk driver or some other random risk.
No he isn't being rude you are reading stuff into it that's not there
Moonya, you're not making any sense.
OldPro and everyone else on this thread is accurate.
Cheers,
Terry
Does it have to be the sea? What about these? A train to Iceland's not possible but the rest might be - Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Italy, France, Spain, Turkey - research them all and see which suits you best.
" But i read in google about sharks free destinations. So i decided such places do exist. "
LOL, as much of what can be found on Google is non-factual as is factual. Please name these 'shark free destinations' that you have read about. Perhaps you can convince everyone else that they exist.
If you have an above average fear of sharks, I can understand you wanting to avoid any possibility of encountering one but if that is the case then you should accept that you will have to swim in fresh, not salt water to do so. There are countless destinations where you can swim and sunbathe on a lakeside.
The shark question therefore has an answer but your second limitation of train travel to an acceptable climate in October is in fact harder to answer.
You can WANT anything but that doesn't mean you can GET it.
