BilleeJean has indicated that this thread is about Thailand
Hi
I'm looking to travel around Asia and Australia in January and I'm 22 female also. I am planning to go to Thailand, Bali, Gili T, Vietnam Hong Kong and Australia in January. Trying to find people to travel with as I'm not keen on going solo. If interested like to speak more
" begin our travels round Asia and Australia for 6-12 months..."
Six to 12 months is a long time. For the Asia part don't plan on working legally. Some Asian countries require work permits and they are not easy to get. Unless you were intending to work illegally the money you bring into these countries will be what supports you.
Different countries means different visa requirements. Some Asian countries may require proof of onward travel if you enter with a one-way flight. Thailand and the Philippines are two that I have come across personally. For Thailand leaving my own country I had to have a return ticket or flight out of Thailand within 30 days. This was enforced at my home airport. For the Philippines, for free entry, when I would fly there from Thailand I was asked to show flight out of Manila within the allotted time. (A departing flight is proof of onward travel.)
Research VISA REQUIREMENTS!
There are some things to do ahead of time while still home. Don't rely on a single debit card for spending money. So have a back up debit card in case your lose a single card or someone you meet steals it. Or it becomes damaged and not useful in an ATM for cash. Have a credit card available too in case you must purchase a flight home in an emergency or you are injured and require medical care. For debit cards and credit cards notify your bank that you will be overseas and where you will be. When your bank sees withdrawals suddenly coming from overseas they might suspect fraud and block the transaction.
Work up a daily budget and know how much per day you can afford for hotel and other day to day expenses. If you can only afford to stay in grubby rooms or and have to eat crappy food don't stay so long! From Thailand you can reach Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia overland. (Check visas! Some you will have to pay for!) Cheap flights available for Vietnam. (Always look at a map and know where the countries are located so you know if flying is required.)
'...we're 22, girls and social..'
For the Asian part, don't be surprised if you get some creepy guys who think you two ladies will be easy picking. Maybe even perhaps gullible enough to spend your money on them! So screen any people who want to meet up with you to weed out some of the weirdos. Maybe meet them in neutral locations like a known restaurant and not your hotel room front door. Always think safety!
Your riskiest situations may be from chance guests you invite to your room. In that case always lock up your money, passport and other valuables BEFORE opening the door.
If any of the guys you meet up with in Asia are dopers or do stupid things that might have the police involved don't hang around with them! Asian jails are not very nice and drug offenses are treated seriously!
Make copies of your passport data page and any visa stamps. Keep copies separate from your passport. You can save flight itineraries and flight confirmation numbers in email form. Save the email from the airline company in a folder in your email account. You can always find an internet shop to pull up that data if needed.
December is the most expensive time of the year to visit Thailand. High season for hotel prices from around November to beginning of February. (When it is cold in Europe and N. America it is high season!) Most expensive is Christmas - New Years holiday period. Book your hotel room early! Some good places booked 4- 7 months ahead of time!
Have (safe) fun!

LOL, I suggest you 'bear' it in mind and 'bare' nothing unless you are sure you want to.
There is always some risk inherent in anything you do. But it isn't necessary to be paranoid about it either. As the saying goes, you take more risk crossing a city street where you might get hit by a bus.
Just use common sense and street smarts and you will be fine. You are not the first 2 girls to travel and you will not be the last. Do any get in trouble, of course they do but some people also win the lotteries.
