hi

Planning many trips overseas and I am glad i joined this forum

Welcome.

If you haven't got a passport apply for one now!

Decide where to go and what time of the year has the weather you prefer.

Research visa requirements for any country you visit. Some countries may have special requirements if you plan to enter with a one way flight.

For any trip you should work up a budget and know how much you can afford for day to day expenses after paying for plane tickets to and from your selected country. If you find that with your budget you will always be eating crappy food and staying in barely livable accommodation consider staying for a shorter duration and having more day to day spending money. (For hotel help always include a daily room price range and roughly where in the city.)

An old fashioned printed travel guide you check out from a library can also be helpful too.

Even something as simple as a Google or Bing search can answer some questions for you almost immediately. But with general searches you should verify the accuracy or what you read.

Always research any scams you may encounter in any country you visit before you visit! After being a victim is too late!

Always have fun but think safety too!

That's sound advice from karazyal. One essential I would add is to get travel insurance. You never know whether you'll need medical attention or, worse, repatriation and travel insurance can also cover you if you have personal possessions stolen or lost. Check your credit card conditions; there's often built-in travel insurance if you book flights and/or accommodation with your credit card.

Less important but something worth doing is going down to your local travel agent's and getting hold of a brochure for where you intend to travel to. It'll give you an idea of some of the travel routes and the places to visit in each place (but remember that most of the sightseeing trips can be done more economically if you sort them out yourself). The brochures usually have some good pictures to whet your appetite too.

Enjoy your planning!
