Changing the route for driving between points

When I enter two points and tell the map I am driving, it automatically creates a route. Is there any way to alter that route?
It seems the system is choosing the fastest route between points - not really what a road-tripper is looking for.
I know I can add stops that are along the route I want to take but that seems cumbersome.

You could look at a paper map and choose your own route. You know, shut off or ignore the darn thing!

Like in the "olden days" just follow a map perhaps??

Have a navigator riding shotgun?

I apologize for my lack of clarity, oh Great One. I do not want, nor do I need, the system to choose my route. Being an "old fart" myself, I enjoy the use of both paper maps and a shotgun navigator. What I do want to be able to do is show the route I traveled on the mapping system of this site.

Okay. Thought you was a youngster who didn't know paper maps ever existed!

Have fun!

Hi mbmotel, at the moment the only option is to add stops along the way to force it to go in a more accurate direction. Sorry can't be more help than that right now but hopefully in the future it will be an option.

LOL, as a fellow oldster, even I could figure out that you simply add intermediate stops along the way. So instead of drawing a line from A to Z along the route you want, you put in A to B, B to C, etc. all the way to Z.

'Progress' is an amusing concept sometimes. What your hand, eye and brain could do in no time at all on a paper map with a pen, takes far more instruction for a computer to replicate.

My GPS lets me choose between fastest, scenic and most direct routes to drive. Fastest usually involves major highways obviously while most direct means the shortest distance between two points but may well take longer if it involves slower speed limit roads. Scenic assumes that what I consider scenic is the same as whoever decided what was scenic or not to begin with.

Speaking of progress, I heard a funny one yesterday. A guy told me that he had asked his daughter to phone and order a pizza. She didn't know how to do that by TALKING to someone. Basically, if there wasn't an APP for it, she was lost.

Not exactly what you were asking for but this might be of interest,

In Planner view, there is a tab titled - add the "add to travel plan" bookmarklet. That gives the ability to add links to your planner (which was created when you made a map.) by adding a tab to your browser

If you then go to Google maps and get it to give you driving directions from A to B etc, click the Bookmarklet & add the link to a selected stop in planner.

That will put a link to a map in your planner that is accessible only to you .. or you can 'collaborate' the planner with TP people of your choice. I have never used the 'collaborate' feature & have no idea how it works but guess it would be ok.

Still cumbersome & not an ideal solution but I hope that gives you an alternative,

Of course you can save directions on Google maps too.
