7 Month RTW Trip

Hi Guys,

Sounds like it will be a great adventure. I hope you are considering Patagonia.

Have you considered creating a spreadsheet of projected expenses?

What I do before a RTW is estimate my hotel, food, and transportation cost, by region.
I can get an idea on hotel expenses online (or from experience). I might say $30US per night for Thailand, $85 for Hong Kong, $80 for Buenos Aires, $30 for Nepal, $70 for the Cotswolds, Mexico City $25, Dubai $130, etc., then multiply that figure by the number of nights in each location, of course.
Repeat for food, transportation, special trips (guided hikes, for example).

I then go so far as to pre-allocate the funds, subtracting them from my net worth so I don't have to spend the whole time travelling worrying about a dwindling bank account!

Of course, a LOT will depend on how you like to travel...class of hotels, rental cars, if the area you're visiting has a low-cost air carrier, the amount of travelling you will do within a region, etc., so LOTS of variables. You might find the US has some real inexpensive hotels (and petrol), and Vegas can be done rather inexpensively if the tables don't get you!! Rental cars aren't very expensive either.
(Sometimes I wish I were from England just so I could visit the western US and drive for a few days!! LOL!!)
But some research and the spreadsheet can give you a good idea, although it may take a while. Then again, isn't planning half the fun!?
