Quick Peru trip

Hi all,

If you want to hike the 'traditional' 4 day inca trail trek to Machu Pichu then make sure you book before you go... What sort of things are you interested in culture? architecture? museums? party spots? wilderness?

Yeah, the question is how big a traveling balls do ya got? Last year (summer 2009) I was in Peru for a few days with my mom. Not adventurous enough to do the 4 day hike, we opted for the train, bus,and hike up to Macchu Picchu. It was totally amazing, but the people we talked to who did the 4 day hike said it was the trip of a life time. Better hope you enjoy hiking though! Heard they have cooks and sherpas and all that for about $250 american for the 4 day hike. It was a total blast! I was there in June 2009.

So thats if you like hiking up to one of the 7 wonders of the world! They also have some awesome natural baths, 4 days being plenty of time to explore and enjoy! Just depends how adventurous you wanna be!

The Inca Trail permits are sold out for May but there are other treks like Lares, Salkantay, Choquequirao, Hucuy Qosqo, etc. -snip-

The main highlight is Cuzco and Machu Picchu of course. That is 4-5 days so you really only have time to do one more thing. I would recommend you to combine Cuzco and Machu Picchu with either Lake Titicaca, Arequipa & Colca Canyon, or the Tambopata jungle. These are all 3-4 days long so would fit well within your time-frame.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I plan on making a quick, rather shortish trip to Peru. I have 8 days at my disposal - May 8-16. I won't have enough time to do all the trails. I just want to get a 'feel' of the country. Any suggestions on places to visit and cheapest way to get around? I will be traveling from the US.

Ajit

Ajit,
I did something similar last year. I think it may have been 8 nights in total. Here is how I did it.

day1: Cuzco
day2: Cuzco
day3: Bus to sacred valley and then a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes
day 4: early morning bus (prepare for 4:45 a.m. breakfast if you want to make that first bus and believe me you will want to do exactly that!) to Machu Picchu, evening train back to Cuzco
day5: Cuzco in the morning followed by an afternoon bus to Puno
day6: day-trip to Lake Tititcaca
day7: Flight to Lima
day8: lima - late night flight to Colombia

totally doable.
