My husband, myself and 3 kids aged 4, 8 and 11 will be visiting Orlando in July for 1 week. We will then be going to Clearwater for a week. This is our first time to Florida.
As your kids are too young for the bigger thrill rides i'd stick with the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom at Disney,You might also want to check out Busch Gardens in Tampa on your way to Clearwater.
Let me second jambo101's comments. Another option is possibly to visit Sea World (in addition to the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom) and stick with the simple stuff like the penguins and jumping porpoises or their aquarium.
I'm jealous! You will have a wonderful time in Florida! Just prepare yourself for the fact that it will probably rain a little bit most days, but the sun will shine most of the time.
I went to Clearwater and Orlando nearly every other summer growing up, and I LOVED it! From a kids perspective, the Disney parks are awesome. I was just at Magic Kingdom again a few weeks ago, and that really is the park that has something for every age. The Animal Kingdom is okay (if your kids like animals) but it is smaller than the other parks (and still the same price). Universal and Sea World are also nice options.
You should DEFINITELY check out Busch Gardens when you're in Clearwater. It is a beautiful park that is also fun for all ages.
If you decide to go to Disney this year, don't forget to check out the Disney Give a Day Get a Day promotion where you can get a free admission if you volunteer at a participating organization. That's what we did, and it saved us about $160!
Have a magical time!
