hello i plan on traveling from Chiang_Mai to plain of jars in laos then down to Cambodia phnom penh and back to Thailand and Bangkok can any one please let me know about visas as i have seen they can be problematic in Cambodia with lots of hidden costs. also if any one has done this travel and can give me a good idea of the best way to make the trip also how much it could cost.
Cambodia and Laos are no problem for visas on arrival. Take some passport sized photos and American dollars. $20 for Cambodia, $30 for Laos.

Thank you for the info will make sure I have photos. Do you know how long it can take and what the best way to cross is? I was planning to travel by train and boat. Thank you
Traveling in, out and around Laos takes a long time as it's all still quite under developed. When I traveled in SE Asia, from Chaing Mai I took a bus to Chiang Khong (where I spent the night) then took the slow boat the Pakbeng (which I spent another night) and then on to Luang Prabang. The boat rides take around 7 hours each but they go through some really beautiful scenery. I'm not sure there's a faster way but I recommend this route as it's very relaxing.
It took me 20 hours to get from Vientiane to 4000 islands, in the southern tip of Laos, by bus ( which is a lovely place) and another 6 hours by bus to Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
Be ready for really long trips, but the locations are definitely worth the wait!
Tracie..

i had a bad experience with the taxi.. the motorbike taxi with 3 wheels.
