well for the south island it depends on what you like. if you're an outdoors person you defo wanna go to able tasman nation park, the the franz joseph glaciers, to Milford or doubtful sound, and i hear the dolphin swimming is pretty amazing. Queenstown is awesome for bungy and is very gorgeous. Lake Tekapo was really stunning. Hmm for some reason thats all i can think of. but i only had 3 weeks on the south island and it wasn't enough for me!
North island auckland is pretty boring. Bay of islands is pretty nice, so is the coramendal peninsula and the east cape area. Lake Taupo is pretty nice (especially if you fancy a skydive) and its a great place to do the Tongariro Crossing from which was a highlight of my trip! If you're into volcanic activities, then Rotorura is a pretty neat, be it smelly place).
Yep if you like to walk a track the Tongariro crossing is great. Preferably on a nice sunny day. Skydive over lake taupo!
With a camper you could spend a week or so exploring the coromandel. Perfect amount of time between games for this.
