motorcycling from america to central and south america

i'm planning to get a motorcycle in Boston and doing a little road trip south to central and south america. would like to leave around june, because i have to be in mexico the first week of july. as of now i have no plan where to go or what to do, just know i will be leaving in june.

Good idea to know when you're leaving!

Congratulations?

There's no question here. But have fun.

Lots of people start in Canada/US and wander through Mexico/Central America down as far as Panama. With proper research and preparation it's no big deal. Lots of websites/blogs with all the information you need.

Here's one website of MANY that has great info: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ Google is your friend...

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

If your time frame and planning allows you to venture further than Panama, you will have to make arrangements to get you and your bike past the Darien Gap. There are no roads through the Gap and Colombian FARC guerrillas like hiding out there. This will take some planning ahead of time and the cost included in your budgeting.

There are assorted ways of doing this. Arrange shipment of your bike in a cargo container that is also carrying other vehicles to Colombia or further south. You can either fly and meet up with your bike at the end destination or find a shipping company that also allow you passage. There are also personal yacht owners who will take on passengers for a fee or in exchange for labor aboard ship.

Just something to think about while you make your plans.
