USA cross country trip LA to NY in 50 days

I'll be going on a 50 days trip from LA to NY this summer.

what dates do you have in mind?

Mid July till the beginning of September.

I'll be doing something similar from 1 August (Cali) to 16 Sept (NY)

could possibly meet up in LA/San diego/San fran/vegas?? or where ever else along the way..

Drop me a message if you're keen.

Check couch-surfing -snip- websites so you can meet the local in every town.
Good Luck...

I fully recommend using the Trains to get around the 'States. Amtrak offer some good deals on open tickets and the service is excellent - far better and more comfortable than the buses! I took one bus trip while I was there (from Buffalo, NY to Chicago) and vowed never to do it again.

I got a rail ticket/pass that permitted me travel anywhere in a 6 week period for around $400USD if I recall correctly. You just had to call to book your seat on the train you planned to get roughly 24hrs in advance, which was free to do

The route is crazy since San Francisco is WAY far north of Los Angeles and the rest of the trip is more to the south... How about this:

San Fran > LA > Las Vegas > Grand Canyon > Houston > New Orleans > Miami > Key West > [plane] > Chicago > Detroit > Wash. DC > NY

It's too bad you don't have a car because then you could stop in Marfa, TX - it's this funky old art town in the middle of nowhere and you can rent airstream trailers to sleep in or these big cave tents. It's a really cool place!

Would also skip Detroit unless you definitely have to go there and do the train from Chicago to NYC. Then you can take one of the multiple really cheap bus lines to Washington DC (Bolt Bus, Megabus) most of them have wi-fi which is cool too.

Have you considered renting a car? Renting in California is pretty cheap.
