I'm flying into Santiago in July and flying out of Buenos Aires 13 days later. I'd like to spend a few days in each city, but am not sure where else to go between the two. I've heard Bariloche is great, and have heard mixed reviews on Mendoza. I'd like to ski for ~2 days as well while I'm there.
Mendoza is a lovely flat city and is great for cycling in. On the trip from Santiago to BsAs, if you are going direct, it will be the only town that is worthwhile stopping in. It isn't a massiva laff riot by any means. But it's pretty and tree lined, and friendly.
I tried to stop in several towns on my trip through there, and was bored to tears. The route is flat as Saskatchewan and the towns between Mendoza and BsAs are really sorta dumpy. With the exception of the massive casino that styles it's exterior like New York City, incongruously plopped in the middle of the city that it's in.
