Hi, Me and my girlfriend are traveling to Panama and going to be there a couple of weeks. We want to do a lots of site seeing by do not want to jump into any taxi ( as we are two ladies traveling alone). I hear there are alot of private cars with drivers and/or taxi services you can hire that are dependable, speak English and we can trust. Can anyone help with website, or emails, or phone numbers, names, etc.
And any must see places. I have planned the Canal & Locks, The City, Old Town, and I hear the Embrera Indians are a must. What the best beaches to go too?

Hello Deborahab, I was in Panama a short while ago and like you was looking for a private taxi or car service. I had a friend refer me to a company called Panama Transexpress. I ended up having one driver the whole time I was there. He took me where ever I wanted to go and saw alot of sites I probably would not have otherwise. Definitely go see the Embrera Indians. I loved it. Saw their village, kids, and families. Was able to watch as they made clothes, jewelry and blankets. Also went to Gamboa which I enjoyed. If you like the rainforest or birdwatching. The museum at the Mira Loma Locks was interesting. The museum starts at the beginning when the French attempted to build the canal and then goes through the complete construction by the U.S. And the locks are unbelievable. If you are real lucky, like I was, you will be there when a ship actually goes through the locks. Then there is alot of history in Panama. I had no idea that the Panama City we see is actually the third Panama City built. The second Panama City is call old town or Casco Viejo. They are slowly rebuilding it, but it has an Emerald Museum, Old Churches, Restaurants, and government buildings worth seeing. And then the beaches up Playa Coronado and North to Santa Clara area are beautiful. Anyway, hope that helps.

Hi. There are many options for travel in Panama. We operate a very nice Bed and Breakfast in Panama called Casa Las Americas and we often advise our guests on these things. Yes, hiring a driver is a very good option and we use several safe and reliable ones who speak English. This is a relatively cheap option INSIDE THE CITY. If you go outside the city it becomes nuch more expensive so always ask! Inside the city you can expect to pay from $10 to $15 per hour depending on if he acts as a tour guide or only a driver.
You are correct about the must see city sights but you should add the Amador Causeway, a very nice area of restaurants and promenading with sea views. The Embera Village tour is a good daytrip as well, contact us directly if you would like a good link to a great guide for that. Other day trips from our location people enjoy are the Gamboa Rain Forest, El Valle mountain community, Taboga Island. There really are no 'best"beaches becaue there are so many and it depends where and how far you want to travel and how rustic or developed you want it to be. Hi deborahab, I understand the beaches are beautiful on the Atlantic side but many are difficult to get to. I have not visited them, I have only been to the city of Colon. And the city of Colon you only want to visit in during the day. -snip- Also, I agree with 962cla. If you go over to the beaches on the Pacific, you should go up to El Valle and see the Anton Valley. The views are breath taking. Have fun !
