where in india AARRHHH!

right for you india nuts with plenty of time under your belt as it were, i have traveled SEasia from top to bottom and usaully find the process of picking locations/itinerary fairly strightforward with the normal organic changes on route. until now!, i am planing 3-4 weeks in india around christmas time (a little premiture but i bored) my initial vague idear was to travel down part of the east coast as i asumed it was a more off the trail than the west, im a sucker for the beach so it needs to be costaly baced in the main. i have not been able to find a great deal of good quality reports on the east coast and what i have found has been not all that complimentary.
SO what i would like is some rough plans for the time scale, either coast. i have i dont want to rush around like a mad man but at the same time i feel the need see a few different side to such a diverse land. im 31 like to dive in to the history and anthropology of a place but on a social level people make the place and all that, l would like to take in some places of natural beauty but also have a steady in take of beer and local tiple i am on holiday.
thanks for reading this guff any help would be grand

Hi Danny,

Taking into account all the ingredients, my recommended route in South India (best season in December - January) would be:

- Mumbai - India's most progressive city
- Panaji (Goa) - portugese colonial capital
- Agonda (Goa) - friendly with pristine beach and a tropical village
- Hampi (Karnataka) - one of the most impressive historical site with gigantic stones around
- Gokarna / Om Beach (Karnataka) -holy hindu town with hidden and amazing beaches
- Mysore (Karnataka) - palace
- Kochi (Kerala) - colonial heritage town
- Munnar (Kerala) - incredible tea fields, with possible trekking from summit (ask for Mano)
- Kumily or north of Munnar (Kerala) - national parks, spices, jungle trekking, elephant ride
- Aleppey - Backwaters (Kerala) - try hiring a kenu with a guide, and paddle in the endless canal system
- Varkala (Kerala) - body surfing, enjoy sunset with fresh seafood and a bottle of beer

If you want to go to Tamil Nadu: Kanyakumari (Cape Komoran), Temples in Madurai and Trichy are beautiful. Coast on east side is not so nice.

If you look for adventure: try cycling from Mumbai to Goa along the coastal road of Konkan Coast - very-very nice!

But i am sure you will get a lot of comments from fellow travellers too!

Enjoy your journey!

u shd explore the western coast.. running from maharashtra to goa to karnatka to kerela in the south (maybe a map will help you with this).. u have some unknown but excellent beaches there... places suggested by kichikacha will be covered in this...
