I am going to be travelling from venice on the 7th August this year, i was wondering what is the
best way to get to ljubljana from here? i've heard that the trains and buses are not very
frequent or reliable. is it worth it? or i am best to just cut ljubljana from my itinerary all together?.
Any help and suggestions will be appreciated thanks!.
I'm not sure about the travel arrangements, but Slovenian trains are quite reliable. Try this website for great info. on trains - www.seat61.com . Ljubljana is a fantastic city that many overlook. Also consider going to Maribor.
You can check the timetables for trains from Venezia to Ljubljana here: www.trenitalia.it
On the 7th August there's a train departing from Venezia at 21:20 and arriving at Ljubljana at 01:41, the price for one way is 25€.
Also, you could take a train to Trieste, then take a bus to Ljubljana:

I'm from Spain, but I've been living in Italy for a couple of years, and I find italian trains very reliable, I've never had a problem or a delay. I agree with stevetut, Ljubljana is a beautiful city, and also Maribor is worth a visit (depending on how much time you plan to spend at Slovenia)
yea trains are the prob. the best option without burning a hole in your wallet. if it were me I would travel from venice to trieste to ljubljana.
yea, what they said
There are some direct bus sevices from Venice to Ljubljana. See here for instance (25 Euros):
I've never used that so can't vouch for it, but Trieste is well worth a visit in its own right so that's not a bad option either. The other route is by going through Villach (in Austria), but as a tourist there isn't a lot to see in Villach so you may as well go to Trieste and at least get something out of the journey.
