Peru - do i need proof of onward travel?

Hey guys,
I'm just wondering, as ive heard different stories about this from different sources, but do I need to have proof of onward travel from Peru to obtain entry to the country? I am an irish citizen so a visa is not an issue other than whether we need to have booked a bus out of the country before getting there??
Our return flight is from Argentina, so i dont think this is enough to obtain the visa fro Peru.

Hi Bernie!

Are you flying into Peru or travelling overland?

When we entered Peru from Ecuador by land they did not ask anything. Should you enter by land and you want to be on the safe side - I would just create my "own outbound airplane ticket" in word and print it out.

I entered many countries by plane (other than Peru) where they checked outbound ticket at the airport and they always accepted my (real) outbound ticket from a neighbouring/third country as an evidence.

Happy travels!

I flew into Peru and left by bus to Bolivia and then Chile where I had a flight. I never got checked for outbound tickets anywhere, but I think having a outbound flight from another country should be enough.

There were a lot of bus companies in Peru and I always just bought a ticket at the bus station or at most the day before. Sometimes I would ask at the hostel if they recommended a particular company otherwise just whatever looked good. Cusco is full of travel/tour companies that are ready to book you a ticket on the spot.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am very grateful. I have been told by the travel company i booked the flights with that i will need proof of onward travel from peru otherwise i will not be allowed to board my flight to Peru. Even though my return flight from argentina is withing the visa timing.
Anyway, do you know if there is a reputable bus company i can book with online?

Bernie,

i sent you a personal message with some links that might be of your help.

I have a similar story. I am flying to Argentina (UK citizen on May 4th) and out of Bogota on August 3rd. The company I booked ticket with advised me to get proof that I was leaving Argentina before 90 days. I thought that my ticket out of Bogota would be sufficient but they do not seem to think so.

Any advice anyone?

Hi Gary,

i heard there were ferries running from buenos aires to uruguay (montevideo and there is another tourist town as well). you may find a company that allows you to book tickets online.

alternatively, best is to search for reputable bus companies in argentina, go up to their website and check if you can book ticket online. you can also look on the map where is a major transport point near the border of a country you are planning to travel further to. and check if you can find tickets from there over to the next major town in the neighbouring country. this requires a bit of research but i am sure you will succeed at the end.

happy travels!

hey,

In my view you should consult the Airport authority, as they will give you the better details of it.
If to be in a safer side i would suggest you to travel via Road. As it won't consent any visa neither any extra formality.

Hope you will enjoy your journey!!!

Thanks everyone. I was originally going to get a bus from Igazu Falls into Paraguay but think I'll go from Igazu to Brazillian border and then get bus to Cochumba(?) and make my way to Santa Cruz from there. Just need to research some bus companies now.
