Hi,
I just wrote a long drawn-out reply to your inquiry and lost it all when I hit preview.
So, to make things short - have the extraction and go on your trip. Ask your dentist for a prescription for antibiotics. But, just have it filled, don't take them unless he starts you on them automatically.
Most complications begin within 24-72 hours of the tooth removal. And, those complications can be resolved in that amount of time. You state this is your last remaining wisdom tooth. Because you have not mentioned it, I'm taking for granted you had no complications with the previous 3 extractions.
I've had multiple extractions done all at one time and then traveled for 2 weeks, starting the day after the extractions. Ibuprofen was my friend for 2 days for pain - that was all.
For the first 3 days, don't drink fluids from a straw or smoke. Keep you gums moist and do not use aspirin as it slows down clotting time. Straws and smoking tend to dislodge the blood clot from the extraction site which causes "dry socket". Just follow the dentist's instructions and you will be fine.
Enjoy your adventure!

Thank you very much for your reply !!!! As you've said I have removed the 3 others wisdom teeth with no complications afterwards (but a lot of pain the next 2 days) so I hope it is going to be fine because I really don't want to explore Vietnamese hosptital Lol !
Marie
Hello Marie,
5 days is definitely okay and as the previous poster mentioned, just bring along your antibiotics and painkillers. Hope everything went okay!
Ruby
Hello Ruby,
It went okay, finally I get an appointment last friday (instead of this monday) so it is 8 days before my holidays, the tooth was gone in 2 minutes and , the dentist didn't give me any antibiotics, she said I don't need it.
The healing process is a bit slow because I still have a hole, a smaller one obviously but still a hole ! I gues it's normal, I hope so! and I hope I will be totally recover for this saturday as it's my departure.
Thanks for your reply !
Marie
Yes Marie, the hole is normal. You had them with your previous extractions but probably didn't pay too much attention to them since you weren't going away shortly afterwards. As with your other removals, the gun tissue will fill in as it heals. You'll be fine and just try not to keep 'checking the hole' with your tongue. Hard to do, I know. You have gotten through 5 days without complications which is a good sign. As stated above, most problems happen within that 24-72 hour window. You're well past that time frame.
Concentrate on packing and that'll take your mind off of the extraction site.
Have a good trip!
Dear Marie,
Hi..I just joined today. Thank you for the enlightenment regarding the wisdom tooth extraction! It consoles me really...I will have mine be gone hopefully by tomorrow. I am kind of worried since I need to travel to US by May 12 for a licensure exam. It cripples be a bit these past days. Not to mention to slow down with review.
Take care everyone!
Hey i think there is nothing to worry at all.. five days are more than enough to recover from problems related to tooth extraction..But make sure that you take proper rest and medicines prescribed by the doctor. My friend traveled to England with a similar problem but she could manage it well, it was after she got the American airways free ticket letter and had a fine trip.. If you are too much worried then ask your doctor for pain killers and about the potential problems that might arise while traveling.. Actually it shouldn't be a problem at all.. Happy Journey!
