Hi Cherrie, Fancy a Pub.........in the right area, "The Rocks", area just off the harbour and a stone throw away from the Sydney harbour Bridge.
we stayed there for 3 or 4 nights not bad at all, not sure of the rates now, The Australian Heritage Hotel..... its a pub and the location is second to none.
Yea you will get more update hotels but the area where the pub is situated is a little like York, in Yorkshire.
We found it spot on.

Hello,
As with Sydney, Melbourne comes alive during December as festive cheer takes hold of one and all. Check in to a hotel or hostel Melbourne offers during this time and you'll be sure to catch some event or other taking place, be it in the accommodation itself or somewhere in the surrounding vicinity.
Thanks

Hey Daniella,
Have you tried looking outside the CBD? Places like Newtown, Glebe, King Cross, etc, etc? I'm sure there will be hostels there with vacancies, and you are still walking distance from the centre.
Glebe YHA an excellent choice with nice cafe,s and good hotel[TOXTETH] with in walking distance--added to this bus 431 stops/leaves just a few meters from front door ---it travels to Millers Point in the Rocks via Glebe rd,George st[passing Central st with train/airport link] and Circular quay have fun
Thank you all for your advise and help. x
Call home backpackers for christmas and new year but you will need to do it asap min stay 10 nights because of the cricket.
