In this road trip (below) - there is a section of driving up the Burmese border from Mae Sot, Mae Sariang to Mae Hong Son and then Pai...... you might find some interesting tit-bits in there somewhere.

from Kanchanaburi, I would head to Nakon Sawan and then to Tak (nice town) and then on to Mae Sot
