Besides keeping money/valuables in a money belt, where else do you keep your money? I've read to not keep going in your money belt & not to use a purse because pickpockets can steal from that easily. Please advise what you do & thanks!
I heard it was best to have a wallet with very little in it (so if the pickpockets get it your not bothered) and then have a money belt.
hope this helps
I usually devide my money in more parts and then keep a little bit in my wallet, in my bag, in my money belt also in the luggage - so basically you don't loose all at once in case sth happens.
I agree with splitting up money into different places. I hide a stash of money and photocopies of my cards and passport in my luggage as backup. I've never used a money belt but they aren't a bad idea, just wasn't that concerned because I don't walk around with a lot of cash. I carry a small purse that zips shut with a long strap I can put over my head and across my body. I also like to wear clothes with pockets that button or zip closed and put a little money in them.
I use a moneybelt for only really important stuff which I can't lose: passport, identification, credit/debit cards, tickets, passes, emergency stuff, etc. Only carry on your person enough money for the day if you can help it, in case it gets stolen. I agree that always digging into a moneybelt defeats the purpose. I have tried a change purse but it became like a wallet, so not very good. I have also used a long-strapped purse which I could wear across my body and even under my coat and this was more effective than the change purse 'solution.' The reason why one would wear a purse under her coat is because in some places, like Paris, for example, they cut and slash to grab your valuables as you scramble. But they can't see the strap and may miss the purse altogether when it is worn under your coat. It prevents a little snip and grab. It is enough of a deterant, and unless they were desperate or knew you were carrying stacks of hundreds, it is enough to make the theives go after an easier target.

I put cash in a clear ziploc bag because it keeps it dry. It's not that great because people can see how much you've got, but if you don't put that much in it then they don't know how much you have. I normally have a purse which has a little bit of money and some cards but not bank cards, and I have a card holder thing where I keep some more cash and all my credit/bank cards. I keep that with my passport because I don't use it often. Then I have another ziploc with the other bulk cash that I've exchanged in my backpack. I keep the ziploc with the small amount of cash in my pocket (and normally when I travel, I like to wear clothes with lots of pockets, especially zipped pockets). My passport and credit/bank cards in the inner zipped pocket of my jacket which I may or may not wear and everything else in my backpack.
I don't tend to leave my money with my luggage, just in case people go through it so I keep everything with me.

I am male and usually divide my monney into 3. some small change of cash in my pocket. some cash and a card in my wallet. all the rest in hotel room in case or luggage.
I always keep bits of cash in different areas, money belt, secret pocket, inside a book and keep my bank cards in different places. Also an emergency travellers cheque or two that you can cash just using your passport as ID in case other options fail. If you keep all valubles in one place such as a money belt it is really risky. If you lose it or it gets stolen then you have lost everything in one hit. Sometimes an ATM won't work and the banks are closed so it's good to have back up.
I've never used a money belt. I have a small travel purse (wallet) where I keep most of my money and cards, and I carry it in my crossover bag. I keep the crossover bag zipped at all times, in front of me where I can see it. Sometimes, if I remember, I put some money in a zipped inside pocket just in case. Never had any problems.
