Few travelguide bugs

Hi there,

Hey Mike, I've been looking into the contribution issue today. Need to do a bit more work to optimize it, because that whole process was extremely slow. Should have a fix up tonight hopefully and I'll reprocess all titles edited in the last week or so at the same time.

Haven't had a chance to look at this foreign character issue in detail yet, but I'm assuming it's similar to the other problems like it. Hopefully also an easy fix.

Though I might pop it up here as well, as others might be experiencing the same thing. Surprised that no one else mentioned things.
Mike

I think I finally got this contributions thing sorted out. And it's a LOT faster in processing too, which is a very good thing. Please keep an eye out for weirdness though, because I did have to change how it worked fairly significantly. I think it's all OK though and I'm pretty sure I got all the new articles processed now.

Thanks again.

It seems to work for the newest ones started, like the airports today. Check for example.
Also, the older ones with edits work and they already worked before.

The ones started or edited yesterday by the way are not showing at all: check , (both started by HerrBert, small edits by me), and (started by me).
I think many articles started the last week or so will have that problem of no contribution at all, like and . Quite a few actually if I come to think about it lol

Not sure where that bug comes from though

Just an update on things. Tried to chase down the foreign character problem today with not much luck It doesn't happen in my browsers, but it does happen when I tried it in IE7. Which makes it a royal pain to fix! I'll have to play with it more tomorrow.

Not sure what happened to those entries it skipped over. Guess my foolproof method was not so foolproof after all I'll have to find another means to fix those up. At least the new changes and articles will be handled right in the meanwhile.

Also, on a side note, I fixed the accommodation table not showing nicely in IE (in Madrid article in particular). And I sped up the wiki_watchlist considerably. That was really dragging along sometimes.

I've also made some changes to the events calendar and featuring - it will now highlight when a linked article is not featured. And if you feature an article, but don't include any forum entries or blog entries, it will just pull them from search. Not always the best (see the Caribbean Ferries feature for example), but at least it's *something*. Adding photos to the featured entry is also a little better, because it will show them to you in square format while featuring. Handy because that's what they actually end up being.

Thanks for all the work Peter. I know you are busy with quite a few more things on TP (and probably other things as well) and there might be more urgent problems on the website. Don't know though. So thanks again for the effort. The problem with foreign characters is in IE8 as well by the way, I remember that from yesterday at home.

Cheers
Mike

Ah, good to know. Could actually be affecting windows generally. I was just testing heavily in IE7 - not just this bug bug some other more serious ones related to the map as well. Fixed at least one of those, so still a positive day with good improvements. My post-launch to-do list is down to 24 items from 30 now - decent progress for a day's work Of course, I'm bound to have 6 new things to add to it tomorrow hehe

Well, I am again sorry to bother you about the same issue
It seems that somehow especially articles which only had one contributor before AND/OR have little history regarding edits are affected. Check the latest edits on the Austrian cities I have done: there is no contribution at all for some of them, like .

Slight remark: the lay-out of the , especially the right one, seems not ok. At least here in IE8

Don't want to be too pushy, but what I described above seems to be the case. So articles which had only one contributor before and which are edited.
Hope this helps to explain the bugs, check the latest edits I made today.
Cheers and thanks
Mike
