Rio - Buenos Aires in 3 weeks. Advice much appreciated!

VictoriaT has indicated that this thread is about South America

Hi Victoria, my name is Lucas, im from argentina but I live in brazil since im 9 years old.

I think the best thing to do is landing first in Rio, flights to rio might be cheaper than to BA.

In southamerica you might be traveling by bus, flights are expensive and useless. Never been in rio for more than 5 hours but there is plenty info about rio and what to do... parati, angra... if you are into nature, beaches... and not so much urban sights you can easily skip sao paulo, and maybe curitiba (nice and organized 3million people city). Heading south you must see some places like, Praia Brava near Balneario Camboriu... Then Florianopolis (where I live) take 2 or 3 days. Then another MUST SEE places Praia do Rosa, Guarda do Embau, Ferrugem (a few km south from florianopolis).

After that you might take a few days in Uruguay, visit places like punta del este (sort of miami from southamerica, crowded in summer time), colonia (old city by the river... amazing)... then take a ship (4 hours) to buenos aires... and then Kill it for 4 or 5 days...

well if you need more specific info, I ll be happy to help you!

Best wishes!
L

good advice there bar the fact that Iguazu Falls has been missed out. You would be insane not to spend a day or two at either side.

The fast boat from Colonia to Bs As only takes one hour and well worth it. You can pick up some duty free on it too. :-)

I've never been to Rio or Brazil, but BA is great. Strongly suggest however that you try and get out and see other parts of Argentina. BA is more or less like NYC is to the US. Great, interesting, but to really appreciate the country you have to get out of the city. Jonshapiro
