Hi guys,
Im looking for a fairly luxurious destination to stop for 5 days on the way to New Zealand in early April.
It's for my mum and her business partner. They dont want anything too adventurous (eg. India, Sri Lanka) and also nowhere that involves a lot of travel to get to from the airport.
I thought of Malaysia (Pulau Peherntian's are too far i think, and they have already been to Lankawi), Indonesia?
They have already been to Fiji and the Cook Islands.
Maldives-but will be difficult to write that off as a business expense!
Really appreciate any help!
Are you thinking of beach resorts or cities too?
Dubai, Singapore and Hong Kong come to mind as interesting cities to stop in on the way to NZ. Singapore and Hong Kong have excellent transport links to and from the airport; I can't quite remember the location of Dubai airport in relation to the city.
Agree with Bex, a city could be great as well, with luxurious hotels and if they are thinking of luxury, a taxi from the airport is never to far away. Hong Kong has good public transport as well by the way to and from the airport.
Basically it depends on either flying east or west towards New Zealand and if they have already chosen a specific airline or not?

How about ? The main reason for suggesting that is you can actually fly to the island, so although it's roughly as far as the Perhentians, it's a LOT easier to get to. My wife, daughter and me had a 7 or 8 day holiday there last year on the way back from Australia. Very nice
I've done both Singapore and Hong Kong en route to NZ (and San Fran on the way back!) and would recommend HK wholeheartedly. Both places have their merits (Singapore zoo is v. good) but I preferred HK for the culture difference whereas parts of Singapore felt like any other business district...
We stayed in Mong Kok in HK, which isn't the most touristy of areas but was close to the night markets and felt a bit more 'authentic'. The view of the city and the Harbour is something else.. I'd happily go back there to see it again.
What a great decision to have to make though, I'm jealous!
A luxurious adventure:
On the way to NZ from where?
Not sure what what your budget for the 'fairly luxurious destination' is, but check out . It's located on a privately-owned island (away from the main Pangkor Island)just off the coastal town of Lumut, Perak, on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Lumut, also the base of the Royal Malaysian Navy, is a 2.5 to 3 hours drive from the capital . You can also fly from (which is actually closer to the city than ) to the airport on the main island and then take a boat to the private island.
wow, thanks everyone!
a beach stopover would be favoured as both of these lucky women have been to HK and Singapore.
We are departing from Ireland/UK.
Hey there !!
Dubai would be a perfect stop for them, speak to the local Emirates Airline office.. there is on going offer with a free stop over with a hotel !
The airport is very close to the city, and the beaches are amazing during that time =), and you will get to do plenty of things to do as the weather is perfect !
Try booking at - Atlantis Hotel Palm Jumeirah or Jumeirah Beach Hotel or Qasr or if you find them expensive check any hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road a perfect place to stay !
Or a hotel next to the airport like Bustan Rotana
Book a nice and cheap desert safari, is a must !
