Turkey travel

Hi ,

We are 5 in a team planning to travel in Turkey during April May 2010 .

After visiting some islands in Greece , we will reach Kusadasi .

We will like to do Kusadasi- Ephesus-Koycegiz-Fethiye- Antalya-Cappadocis in about 10 days . Then we will take bus/train/ flight to Istanbul

As we plan to hire an SUV,here are my questions

- Are highways good to drive in Turkey / Roadsigns are in English ?

- Can we hire a car with driver to take the route and then leave the car at Cappadocia ? What will be approx. cost for car hire, 10 days , 1000 km

- what will be the best way to travel from Cappadocia to Istanbul . Bus or train.

- since we are travelling during later part of April. we will not book hotels ahead of our arrival. We can find hotels as we drive in a city / Will that be a correct approach ?

Will appreciate your advice.

Thanks

hey there I will try to answer your questions as a resident.

highways are ok you can drive araound whole country. but very few roadsigns are english most of them turkish or only international signs which you will eaily understand.

you can rent any car with driver it is not a problem. but if you take somewhere and leave it in another place they charge you more.

bus is faster it takes about 10 hours from capadocia to istanbul .

about hotels I am not sure. where ever I go I book it at least 2 months earlier but it is your choice. you can find crash in places everywhere. Turkey has a great variety in terms of hotels.

fell free to ask anything, I hope you have a nice trip,

Hi ,

Thanks very much for your response. This is big help for me .

So, I will book hotels 2 months ahead of our tour .

We will hire a car at Kusadasi and travel around Pamukkal Fethiya, Antalya Koyna to Cappadocia and leave the car at Cappadocia . Then take a bus to Istanbul.

So we will do self drive and need to find a rent a car agency that charge us for the hire and not for mileage .

Where do you stay in Turkey ?

I have bought a lonely planet book on travelling to Turkey and trying to find out as much as possible about your country.

Turkey has been rated as the best country in the world for tourists. Wow.

Thanks again

galatan tower, princess islands, topkapi palace, hagia sophia, blue mosque, grand bazaar, bosphorus boat trip, dolmabahce palace, archeology museum, mosaic museum, taksim square, baghdad street , fenerbahce stadium, fenerbahce park, beylerbeyi palace, camlica hill, ortakoy, nisantasi,

You may see half dont worry.

Great !

Hopefully we will be able to meet you and personally say Thanks for your help.

Our plans are to come to Istanbul on 5th. morning and leave on 7th. afternoon flight .

With your must see list, I think it will be better to come in on 4th. morning from Cappadocia . What do you think ?

Also that weekend is the Formula One car race . So, in a hurry I am trying to book 2 double rooms in the Old city area . Any suggestion for hotel you have ?

Thanks again

if you act fast. you can finish the whole capadoccia in 48 hrs. it will be axhaustingg but you guys seem young.About hotels ı have no idea bcause never stayed in one of them. but still look for cheap ones coz in Turkey every hotel has mostly high standarts. And about the car race never been there but it is a bit far , like 20 kms from the center of asian part and like 40 ıkms from the oldcity.
