From looking at the German embassy's site, yes, I do believe this is possible (see )
This used to be a problem for Australian citizens, but I'm pretty sure that was changed about 7 or so years ago.
I'd recommend ringing up the German embassy up to get the full story though. Obviously would be a great passport to have considering how easy it makes it to travel in Europe!
