Hi Farha,
if I were at your place I would give either the money or a gift voucher to buy the gift of their choice instead of buying something that might be a duplicate gift or something out of interest or use to the couple.
Incase you are still insist in buying a gift then...can recommend some things that will stay and remembered for long.
a. Digital Photoframe or Collage of Photos with a set photo of yours ;-)
b. Cook Books (International incase you know their tastes)
c. Voucher for buying books/Music.
d. Voucher for buying any other stuff.
I cant think of more....I guess above choices are good enough for INR 2K

if its a female one give a small makeup case.

What Vikas has suggested makes lots of sense.
If you are travelling to India from abroad, you can bring any souvenir that will be appreciated.
Now a days appliances or utlity things are not given normally by friends as gift for marriage.
