about 5 years ago i got arrested for having a knife on me which i just bought i got a £450 fine and i have paid it off....do you think i should declare it when i go to america or do u think they will not know about it
As you are 5 years older i'd suspect your memory isnt what it once was and as we get older we tend to forget things,
The customs official may perk up your memory or he may not. just my observation.
This type of question is ask/answered almost every week. All I can add is that one UK member admitted he went to prison for a felony. He has repeatedly entered the US since his conviction on the visa waiver program. He states that the US does NOT have your criminal history in front of them. You tell them your criminal history. Our convicted UK member offers this advice: "answer NO to all questions about arrests/convictions" and enter under the visa waiver.
Since I am a US citizen, I never have to face this questioning. If anyone has information that is contrary to what I have posted, please tell us what happened to you.

My daughters BF tried entering visa free and lying on the application.. They fingerprinted him in Atlanta and wereable to pull up all of his records. He had entered the USA visa free once before and was not fingerprinted and lied on the app and got in by luck. This time he was not so lucky. Now they insist he enter on a visa. I do not recommend lying. He traveled all the way here from UK and had to turn right back around and travel all the way back. It was not a pleasant experience for him and armed police escorted him to the plane. He spent hours in a room being interrogated. All of this over a 10 year old misdemeanor pot charge that he was not conviocted of in the UK but it was still on his record.
and BTW I am strictly going by what this person has told to me about the said charges in the UK. We have not met this person face to face yet. His first visit was to see his father, this was before we met him online. He seems like a nice guy who got the bad end of the stick. It could be simply because he was not honest. Had he been honest about such a simple charge so long ago he may have been allowed in?

Thank you for posting this. If the US Immigration officials can pull up a 10 year old pot conviction via fingerprints, then all records from the UK must be on their computers. Lying on the visa waiver form will not cut it anymore. Everyone has the option of applying for a US visa and explaining what happened to them in years passed. I would guess that it would be on a case by case basis at that point.
thanks for the replys...i went and asked the police and one of them said my case was nothing to worry about....i wont even show up on there records he said tell them anyway..or if you dont they prob wont even know
