Hiya, I was in Heathrow Airport the other day and I noticed an announcement which was about using Taxis. It said something like "for your safety make sure you use a London licensed Taxi". I thought it was a little misleading. If you are going to use Taxis from Heathrow at all you should use a Minicab. I say this for a few reasons. They are cheaper, more comfortable and you can pre book them. They will come and meet you wherever you like. If arranged the driver will even come inside the airport to the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. If you are worried about your safety then a Minicab is the safest way to travel. The reason is because when you call up to pre book your car they have to keep a record of your journey at head office. This includes your journey details and the details of the driver that was assigned to the job. If you leave any luggage in the car at least they can trace who the driver was. If you use a Black Taxi there is no central location where your journey record is stored. Its just up to the driver to write the journey details up in is notebook usually just for tax purposes Unfortunately there were some rogue Black Taxis in London news in the past few years which made me cautious about using them. But this is just my personal opinion. Most local londoners would choose a minicab over a black taxi as its known to be cheaper. The only difference big difference is that black cabs can pick you up on any street without a reservation whereas Minicabs otherwise known as Private Hire Vehicles have to be pre booked. A minicab can be any type of car...... usually a nice family car or if you sometimes a luxury car like a mercedes. You can request a super executive car if you want but then you might be charged a little more for that. Think about Global Warming

Key word being 'local', meaning they both know their own area. Not always the case with the rest of London.
