Cambodia- Siem reap itinerary for 5D4N or 4D3N Any ideas?

Dear all,
I am planning to have a groups of friends to travel Siem Reap. I haven't been there before, therefore, I need some advice from those who have experience traveling around Siem Reap. Do anyone can provide us a general ideas and also...the itinerary of trip? I dont know know how many days will be sufficient for travel around Siem reap....Is it 4Days 3 Night, enough??or else? Please kindly advice.

Alice,
Most visitors buy the for Angkor. 1 is not enough, 7 too many. 5 days should be perfect to see most of the and a few outside of the main complex. i, about 45 minutes from Siem Reap is worth the effort IMO. is worth a visit as well. Aki Ra has really shown that one man can make a difference. On the way to Bangteay Srei. You may also want to spend 1 day on . Plan on hiking up one evening for the sunset. Most visitors also get up early one morning for . This maybe your only time in Siem Reap, do it all is my best advice.

I have many photos of Angkor, Bangteay Srei & Landmine Museum in my gallery. Good luck with your planning.

Love to go to NZ but cannot at this time. Beautiful country from all that had visited it.

Dear Mike,
Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I am planning to have a working holiday travel to New Zealand on next 1-2 years. Therefore, ask for your opinion.

Alice,

Your itinerary looks pretty good. When I went there, I didn't have an itinerary, I just booked a local tuk tuk and asked him which are the best places to go to according to his suggestions. Not to extra cautious, but there are are a number of excellent tuk tuk guides who speak fantastic English there who are NOT out to rip anyone off.

So, we stayed for 6D/5N and took our time exploring Siem Reap and Angkor Thom with no hassles. It was more like a Free & Easy thing for us and personally I like that kind of travel. Not to be bound down by a timetable.

Anyhow, 4D/3N would be just nice but quite a rush. I personally went for the sunrise and sunset twice. Have to consider the weather too, cloudy day or rainy day... heck, I had a friend visit Siem Reap for 3D/2N and e managed to see all the temples and even tonle sap.. lol, when he came back, he needed another 3D/2N at home to recover form the blistering legs after that whirlwind tour.

Also, we got our tuk tuk to take us out to a local traders market, where no tourist visit. I find the main market over commercialized therefore wanted to experience a real local market. Talk to your guides (hopefully they are nice enough to take you considering there is no petrol tip for them)

Have a blast there! I hear they actually reinforced the walk up to Angkor Wat with steel stairs.. when I visited in 07, we literally climbed up those huge stairs which made it so much more interesting. -snip- I also heard from my friend who recently got back in July that they tarred up te main roads around the market and Bar Street...

Regards,
David

Alice,
Your itinerary looks OK. I would drop the 3rd time to sunset at Bekheng. I would try to visit Tonle Sap Lake one afternoon. I think you will be templed out by the second day. You can only trudge around the rocks for so long. Be flexible in your time in SR. If it is as hot as it was when I was there, you will need some down time to survive the heat. I would add Landmine Museum on your way to Bangteay Srei.

Guides are a challenge. I was happy with my moto driver and my little WaNee for my second/third visit. My photos explain all this. You GH will have English speaking drivers/guides. Or you can contact drivers/guides before you visit. This is the best for all things Cambodia. I would read the reviews of the GHs after you pick a few that are in your price range. SR is small enough that it really does not matter much where you stay. You can walk to some of the sights, moto ride to the others. I preferred staying close to Old Market when I was there. That way you can walk to shopping, restaurants, clubs, the river, etc.

I hope this helps Alice. Send me a PM if you have additional questions. Mike

Dear David & Mike,
Thanks for sharing your info. As per mentioned by Mike, the weather might be very hot there. What is the recommendation month for us to travel there? Do you have any ideals about it? Is it June is too hot to travel Siem Reap there? Besides, estimation of living cost + transportation + food at Siem Reap is how much? I wish to have a general ideals about it..

Thanks again for your advice.

Alice
