Suggestions for Backpacking through Europe

Hello
So, i am fortunate and have been able to travel quite a bit for someone my age.
I am currently planning my next attack, and I am very interested in Backpacking through Europe. I am looking to go in 2012 (probably in the fall shoulder season). I will be 19 at that time, and know people in England and Italy (So i'm not totally with out contacts over there)

Hi!

Sounds great what you're up to!

I just want to tell you some places, which (in my opinion) are really worth a visit!
As you would like to go to England, London is a great city to see. The atmosphere there is just amazing. While you're in Italy, I would (of course) recommend you Rome. It's a romantic city, with beautiful culture and architecture. Also Florence en Venice are one of my favorites in Italy. It's just magical and the atmosphere and the people are so different than anywhere else in Europe.

To me, Barcelona is a must-see during your trip through Spain. It's beautiful with all it's architecture, breathtaking mountains and wonderful beaches. Madrid is also worth a visit, and the south of Spain is gorgeous as well.

Although these places are all very touristic, in my opinion they are all must-sees! And as you're interested in Culinary: Spain and it's delicious tapas and paella will definately attract you. And Italy with it's great pasta's, lasagnas etc. I'm sure you will love it. At least I do!

Good luck with planning your trip!

In order to balance the tourist areas and some more quiet towns, mix in some more of the countryside/small villages into your travel. On your way from one big tourist den to the next, stop at a couple small villages along the way. You don't want to avoid the tourist traps altogether as these are important things to see!

Hi,

France is really nice as well ... Forget the people who tell you that all the French are arrogant ... they're not. Well, not all ... Bordeaux is really beautiful, and Paris too, of course, the French Alps are amazing aswell ...

If you'd want to experience a really young and arty city, you should go to Germany and especially to Berlin (Kreuzberg! Friedrichshain! Prenzlauerberg!!).

And off the beaten track: Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is really nice aswell ... It appears to be a bit dirty, but it's actually a vibrant city with lovely people and lots of exciting festivals and all ...

Anyway, Italy and Spain are great too, of course ...

Too much to see, too little time ;(

Hello

I am looking to spend time especially in Ireland/Scotland/England/Italy and Spain. I am toying with the idea of staying around 3-4 months.
I don't want to miss out on some of the touristy places (I.E. Giants Causeway...) But I don't want my trip to just be going from tourist trap to tourist trap. I am very interested in Culinary, so that would play a large part in where i go (and before anyone says it, i don't want to go to france for the culinary aspect.)

At this point, this is just in the "drawing board" phase. Trying to kinda map out a trip, get a rough idea on prices, ect.

So, if you have any advice, AT ALL, please let me know!
Thanks :D
Emm

Wow! You are such a young traveler but that is really good. You get to see the world early on. Anyways, for my 2 cents, if you are a backpacker, you better search/research more about the places you're heading to - cheapest accommodations, restaurants, commuting, and of course, the place's culture. Also know the dangers of the place so that you'll be aware of them. Have a fun and safe travel!

Sounds like there are just too many things to see!
