Can anyone update me on the situation out there at the moment? I hate to believe all the websites but there's a LOT of scaremongering going on.
Honestly, if I had 12 months to spend in Latin America then Acapulco wouldn't even make my list of Top 1,000 Things To Do.

Really? I don't know much about it other than it has a big beach!
I reckon I'm gonna just head to Mexico City and then start travelling towards the East Coast from there...
Acapulco is a tourist enclave, one of the oldest and most famous beach resort towns in Mexico. If that's your style then go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Let me say that first you would be fine going to Acapulco but it is not a fantastic place to go anymore. I highly recommend going north of there to the Zihutanejo area it is awesome. There are several small towns around there such as Troncones that are beautiful if you want quiet. But really the Zihuatanejo bay is paratise.
