How Heavy is a backpackers rucksack ?

Hi

Mate in my opinion if your backpack weighs more than 20kgs you've got too much stuff, Where are you heading?

I travelled Asia, Australia and NZ with around 12kgs, but too be fair im not too arsed about looking stylish etc, 30kgs is plenty of room.

Happy travels,

Andy

I travelled around Asia with 9.5 kgs, but I'm small and therefore so are my clothes! I would agree with Andy in that 20kgs would definitely mean you have too much stuff.

Im gonna be going through South East asia & ending up in Aussie for the 2012 eclipse, then pushing on to the phillipines & china >im only gonna be taking cloths - laptop & a few small items - would 15kg be good (I have 2 book a flight) or 20kg max just to be sure < what do u think ? xx

I recently traveled fully loaded! Meaning I was almost topped out with a 30kg suitcase. I had motorcycle gear I needed to get to Australia so had no choice. With one stop from London to Malaysia it was a royal pain in the butt and something I'd not want to have to do again.

Generally I'm with the others in the 12kg range with my backpack and another 5 to 6 in a daypack with my laptop. Anything else you want to take after that is probably not needed and can be bought where and when needed. I love the excuse to buy clothes from foreign countries, it adds to years of memories every time I use it.

Book 20kgs for peace of mind, it only costs a little extra, China is HUGE, so you'll probably need some layers if you are heading up North, most of the rest can be done with T-shirt, shorts and flip flops (read thongs or jandals), obviously you'll need the long sleeves long pants combo for some of the Asian religious sights and general respectability away from the beach.

Andy

^^ Thanks xxx

Last years, I usually travel with a backpack of around 8-9 kg.
But this said, years ago I travelled with of 60+ liter backpack of about 15-16 kg. Never again!!

But travelling with a small backpack of 8-9 kg means you have to wash your clothes at least every two days...

I try to not bring more than 10 percent of my weight. For me, that's about 19 lbs. and I've always had enough of everything.
