I just opened the news paper and saw an ad, flights to Bali for as low as 188 roundrip from a Southeast Asian country... and on HBO, while I was reading the ad, was Julia Roberts cycling in Bali with the view of the rice fields. So I though this is a sign... Then I visited the website of the airlines.... Everything is sold out. Am I suppose to believe that? For as low as 188 USD, if you fly 6 years from the date you book, that would be possible.
Yes, budget airlines are all out to rip you off. They cannot give a good upfront price but instead give you a low price and then add on various charges so in high season you can end up paying more than going by a normal airline.
I couldn't believe how much Air Asia added onto the basic price for a flight from Bangkok to London. I could have gone with a decent airline for what I paid.
The most misleading flight deal I encountered was a $9 flight anywhere, conditions were, I had to stand in the isle of the plane.
Well, my last flight was not a budget airline either... I just ask a friend to book me the cheapest flight out and he got me an airline known to be more expensive.
I think the most misleading I've seen lately are so-called "cheap" prices, either to go across the US or to Europe that don't include the tax and departure fees. On an ad that advertised a SF to London for $520, they some how inadvertently left off the $290 in taxes, departure fees, and airport charges, thus when I went to actually book, the fee they wanted me to approve was $810 per person. Needless to say, I didn't book this fare.
The latest undisclosed fees here in the US are for using the overhead luggage bins in the plane!!!!--amazing, but some airlines (for example Allegiant--a plane that flies for a cheap fare from Monterey, CA to Las Vegas, NV) somehow fails to mention that they will now charge you for carrying bags on and using the overhead bins (interesting, since they also charge you for checked bags--so once you get to the airport, you are already stuck).
Buyer (and flyer) beware.
Aren't or Isn't this practice so outdated? I mean, who gets enticed or persuaded by ads that treat travelers like morons? I am assuming the bus fares don't fluctuate like the airplane tickets do, am I right? The ferries don't have promo fares either, at least most of them?
Well, I like those ads that says, book now, and fly in these periods, and the given dates are atleast 30 days from the time the ads were posted. You won't need to book now and fast, and then fly in 24 months.
