1 week in Vietnam in August - where to go?

Cara,
I suggest you buy an ticket while in HAN. Many companies to choose from, many shops selling them. Compare while walking around HaNoi. Sinh Cafe is the largest, Hanh Cafe is OK, An Phu OK, forget TM Bros. Each one stops at a hotel in the cities beween NAN & HCMC. The rooms cost roughly $25/night where Sinh Cafe stops, Hanh Cafe more in the $10-25 range. You do not have to stay where they stop. Guys on motos will be there when you arrive touting their rooms for a cheaper price. I suggest you look at the room where your bus stops, get their quote. If it is too high, one of you go with a guy who offers a lower priced room. One stays with the luggage. If you find a better place, move there. The tout will get a commission, but that is small money. Same with the moto ride, $1-2. My last trip I went with Hanh Cafe and will use them again. You can use to get to HCMC. Much more expensive, less flexibility (must book several days in advance), but safer than the roads of VN. Your decision.

has an entry that might be of interest to you. North of Nha Trang are several nice beaches. Several resorts to pick from. I just looked at Paradise Resort. Perfect for a couple wanting some quiet time. Meals included. Check on the weather once there. See if any area in VN is getting more sun than rain. Good luck with your planning.

Hello,

My boyfriend and I are spending 3 weeks of August in Vietnam and travelling from Hanoi to HCMC. Thanks,

Cara,
I e-mailed a friend of mine in VN and she told me to drop Hanh Cafe as a decent bus company. Mai Linh & Phuong Trang are better choices. You can always buy one ticket at a time. Buy a ticket: HAN-Hue, decide if you want to go with them again. Good luck with your planning.

Hands down the best place for me was Hoi An. It has a really great atmosphere, it's set along a river and it's really beautiful. You can also rent out bicycles really cheap and cycle the 5km to the beach, which is beautiful. Ninh Binh up north is beautiful as well and not too touristy.
Good luck!
