Hi everyone!
I'm a backpacking biginner, and I'm going on working holiday in Austraila next year.
After the one-year working holiday in Australia, I will go on a RTW trip for about a year.
I will take the Osprey Farpoint 70L(55L+15L) with me. and I will bring my DSLR, too.
My DSLR is Nikon D600 with 24-120mm F4, 35mm f/2D, sb700 and I will also bring a tripod.
I have a Lowepro Inverse 100 AW (http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Inverse-100-AW-Beltpack/dp/B0016JA2RK)
but I think it's a little bit too big for backpacking
And if I put may camera gear into the daypck which is only 15L, there will be no room for other stuff!
Now, I'm thinking about swap this camera bag to a toploader, just put D600+24-120 in it, and put my 35mm, sb700 in the daypack.
How do you think? Is this a good way to bring a DSLR? Or does anybody has other option?
thanks!
I'd say get a bigger daypack. The way I do it: I have a 29L North Face Recon, and comfortably carry a laptop, D200 in toploader, two lenses, and various regular daypack things (lonely planet, water, ...)
When I get to a location worth taking photos of, the toploader comes out of the daypack, equalizing the load significantly - but there's also lots of areas where you don't want to flaunt the camera (and even in toploader, it's still flaunting), and so having it hidden away in the daypack works pretty well.
I do sadly opt out of travelling with tripod; in the final equation, there's just not enough "must use" opportunities to justify its weight/bulk for me, especially when I realize I can frequently substitute it with a nearby park bench, trashcan, rock, or whatever.
