The ultimate Hipstey Vacation! Desert? Grand canyon?

So my boyfriend and I went to Montreal together last summer.
It was a great 4day vacation of night life and that rush of excitement of being young and 20 traveling to a place miles away from home and we have made some of the best memories of our lives.

There are lots of tour companies that take you the length of US Route 66, but they all charge anywhere from $1,600 to $2,800 per person--way too much for your budget.

Instead--since you mostly want to visit the desert and the Grand Canyon--fly to Las Vegas, then get a cheap car rental from there to the Grand Canyon and back. There aren't many companies that will rent to someone your age, but you might be able to find a company like rent-a-wreck or some low end rental group. Otherwise, you will have to wait until your boyfriend turns 21 or else take a bus from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon that advertises that it also stops on the way along route 66--or that advertises stops near Flagstaff or near Kingman.

To really feel that wild sense of freedom, you really should try and rent a car--it gives you the ability to be "free" to choose where you want to go and when--and to allow your creativity to take you places you might otherwise miss or wish you would have gone. That's part of why people travel to new places in the first place.

Good news NPaks. I found out that this minimum age is 19. You can fly to Vegas, rent a car and start your hipster adventure!

Gary, there is no 'rent a wreck' in Vegas. Don't know why. We have over 40 million visitors every year, they are missing the boat!
