Help from experienced India traveler

charlieacton has indicated that this thread is about Kochi (India)

If you have two months, what is the hurry with a flight?

I have twice travelled around India by train on two 7 week trips.

In two months you can see a good part of India and still end up where you want in time.

Invest in a Lonely Planet guide to India, and don't forget your visa.

well since you would be going to Kerala, you can head to Vythiri resort search it on google. Its one of the best place to stay. You can go backwaters kerala.

From kochin you can head up to multiple places, Forest reserves/Sanctuary. Check out the Indian festivals falling in Oct and Nov which you would like to see...

Thanks! although I'm meeting my sister in Cochin and she's still intent on flying up to the north. good to know that two months is plenty enough time. My lonely planet guide is in the mail as I type.

I don't know about anything with the word resort in it I'm still on a budget haha but I'll look it up. Reserves and sanctuaries are just my kind of thing and sister dearest told me of the backwaters too!

Thanks again

Hi

You are surely going to miss something if you come to India and don't travel in the train. You can surely book your train tickets for Delhi from any of the railway stations in Kerala. As for places to stay in Cochin, you will have ample options to choose from. Though one suggestion - try to visit Munnar. Its a hill station there, which is famous for tea estates.

The best thing to do when we are planning to go other country is to have an experienced travel guide of that country so that you will guide you to the best places around the cities of the country and which will lead to the worthwhile of visiting the other countries...

hi Charlie

If you are coming to India ,you definately don't wanna miss Leh ladakh in kashmir . . . !!!
it's truly beautifull !

IMO, you can ignore 6, joel007 - you can certainly enjoy India without an experienced travel guide,

We went three years ago for six weeks and, because we didn't have the luxury of time, we booked important train journeys three months in advance on Cleartrip http://www.cleartrip.com/trains , Train tickets are cheap, you get a reserved seat (or you can save accommodation costs by booking a sleeper - ideal for ten hour + journeys) and you avoid the scrum as the train enters the station.

Amritsar up north is worth a visit for the Golden Temple and the Wagah border ceremony - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ0ue-XGl9c. We went across for a couple of nights in Lahore, Pakistan but be careful with getting the right visas if you want to do that.

Enjoy India!

I just want to say that Railway network in India is very complicated , it's obvious to be complicated for a new traveler. But belive me india has such a beutiful place to visit Ooty , Darjeeling, Nainital is the best one place that i recommended you to because i am hundred and one percent sure you have an experience there for a lifetime..

Two months in India are enough to see the various wonders that reside in india. In kerala and cocin you will only grab memories ofvarious rituals in india. But if you want some fun while in India , go goa. And irrespective of how cheap air fares are, you must enjoy the "indian rail".
