There are always backpackers about these days. The problem with the hot season is that with humidity, it becomes uncomfortably hot. 40.C with high humidity will fill like 60.C in a dry country.
The rainy season doesn't mean rain all day, every day. You get dry days, and sometimes just a few hours rain but often it means very heavy rain when it does rain. Then again, I have seen such rain completely vanish within an hour in hot weather.
Also it is not cold rain like back home.
Hey I belive sometime travelling in rainy season utter good as it give more pleasure to visit places with falls. So if you being a nature lover must go need not to worry with rain. Hot season are little hard to go as far i say i make things go hard.

During the rainy season you have nicer looking plant life. Hotels are cheaper than high season. More hotels available with a walk-in. Tourists do visit Thailand all year long - hot season - rain season - or high season. You do get more tourists during the November through February time period because the weather is a little nicer but also because in North America and Northern Europe it is cold!
Bali is okay. Very popular with women tourists traveling alone. Except for Bali (right now,) partying in Thailand is without any religious problems.
I love to travel in Hot season because we get holidays..

I'm getting the impression that the consensus is the rainy season, which I was leaning on anyways. I've actually been to Thailand in September before - the weather was fine but I was a bit disappointed at times with the number of fellow backpackers (although I was in a group of 5, so I was probably a bit less sociable than I'd be alone!). Although i'd imagine the tourist numbers will be down throughout both the hot and rainy season so not much difference between them in that aspect.
The word tourist confuses me though. Does tourists mean families and package tourists or backpackers too? Obviously less package tourists is great, but not so much backpackers.
If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that backpackers are more likely to be there all year round due to their trips being long term and their more resilient nature, whereas it's mostly the families who disappear on the low season. Am I right?
maybe hot season is a better choice, you know rainy season means not conivence for moving out
if you happen to meet a flood , that would be worse
