A WHV is a , which is necessary (and very easy to get) if you intend to work in Australia. (A WHV is once in a lifetime, available if you're 18-30 years old, allows you to stay in the country for up to a year and work for employers for up to six months. (And if you do at least three months of work like fruit picking, you become eligible for getting a second WHV.))

I'm hoping to be heading to oz in April too. I haven't booked any flights yet but will be after Christmas. I got a WHV as well and I looking at travelling up the east coast before heading to New Zealand!!
